My internet is being intolerable as of late, i am not lying when saying it takes me and hour and a half to load 10 mins worth of Youtube. As a result any mp3 uploads are on hold for the near future, sorry :(

Now i'm going to kindly ask you to listen to Melt Banana until your eyes pop. They are fucking awesome and everyone should like them. Here is a video i found, of course i haven't watched it due to the above but i'm sure its brilliant!

I also urge you to listen to Young Team by Mogwai, one of the best albums i've heard in recent days. After hearing the last of 'Mogwai Fear Satan' drift out, feedback playing off flute, i have to admit its gorgeous. The layered melodies interrupted with sudden stabs of violent rock brought me floating off and crashing back to earth at the same time. Good album! Puts me in the right frame of mind for Mario Galaxy anyways....

Melt Banana are the best thing ever! Who knew combining Slayer and Deerhoof would make one of the most addictive bands i've heard? It makes me physically ill in a good way.

Get in to a Band Today: Lightning Bolt

Lightning Bolt are one of those beautiful bands that are so bloody hard to describe. The first time you listen to them can be the biggest headfuck (I remember the time i played Dracula Mountain in the common room, and the resulting grunts of confusion that it received from the sports crowd, good times!) but the more listens i give them the more the appear to simply be a brilliant psychedelica band. A fucking loud one, but one nonetheless. 2 Towers off of Wonderful Rainbow would be the best example of this, a chugging heavy riff that slides into an almost danceable beat.
Other notable things: They often set up their kit in the middle of the crowd.
The drummer, who is awesome, wears a gimp mask.
Muse covered them, badly.
People often wear earplugs to their gigs, as a necessity.

Have one of their more accessible moments, and imagine the majority of my school crying at the thought of such heathen music.

I've just been listening to this, which is a collection of favourites from John Peel's unfortunately named wife. Its a bit of a headfuck, massively old bles and brass band tunes, pretty uncommercial even for Peel himself. Still, i found a few gems, including this awesome Blues song by Lightnin' Hopkins..

This laziness has amounted to me not doing any work, not cleaning my room, not listening to anything apart from the same artist (Tom Waits, since you ask, there's a tiny amount of the Kinks as well), not asking certain girls out and not making and sending CD's to certain canadians. Sadly this has also meant i've been to lazy to update this.
I mean, christ, i'm writing this at school, such is my time. (Latest school news by the by, anglia news are outside as we speak, over the whole Co-Ed thing. 2 sexes in one school! Massive drama! Next they'll discover they're out of the middle ages....)
I looked and there's no music one this computer, crazy nazis. Whatever happened to that Killers CD i ripped years ago? (Not that you'd want it...)

Get in to a band today: Metallica

Like or loathe their new material, Metallica have under their belts a couple of fine albums. Compared to other metal bands at that time, i feel they've always been the most catchy and accessible while remaining one of the most passionate bands out there. Here's two tracks, one a fan favourite, the other a prime example of what a powerful live machine they are even now.

And i am greatly saddened. If i could i'd do all the house parties andall the hangovers again. I've become quite close to some people and its been brilliant. Big cliche number one, its gone by so quickly.

And now i've got to go back to school. Big cliche number two, I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GO BACK. Most people will say this, but i think i mean it more. I felt such a relief after the first year and now i realise i'm not even half done. I don't think i have the energy. Can't i just listen to music all day like i have the last 8 weeks?

Artist of the Summer: Aphex Twin. Its distorted, its weird, its sometimes quite terrifying and unsettling. But i'm hooked. These beats and soundtracked most of my debauchery, in my mind at least.

Am I Better Than Paulo Nutini?

I was watching Channel 4 yesterday and a live performance by Paulo Nutini came up. Knowing he is one of those 'singer-songwriter' type artists your mum listens to, i was understandably cautious. And i had right to be. He was absolutely shocking. Seriously, if Pete Doherty took all the crack in Camden he'd still be able to pull off a more coherent performance. And maybe smash up a guitar. Meanwhile Paulo here looks like he's having a nervous breakdown.

Baffled that such an incompetent artist can have such mainstream success i asked myself, am i better than him? Lets find out through 5 steps...

1. Stage Presence
Here he seems to just crouch a lot, hiding behind his hair, while wincing as if he's had a few to many curries. Come on, at least i'd walk around a bit, wave to the crowd or something. Yeesh.

I'm not really sure what's going on with his voice here, its a cross between a bad soul impersonation and some weird celtic bird mating call. I, meanwhile, have the voice of a young white male Aretha Franklin. Honest.

Every girl in my year fancies him, while they don't fancy me. Hmm. I think he has me there.

4. Actual songs.
He's got the same boring cliched slow songs going on, which no-one can honestly say they like, such is their brain-numbing tedium. I think i'd probably go on and play some classic punk numbers, they're covers yes, since i have no actual song writing ability, but i maintain that my cover of 'Too Drunk To Fuck' would be much more fun than his cover of 'What a Wonderful World'. (Christ that was bad.)

5. Crowd Reception
As you can see, for some reason the crowd loved him. He got a singalong and everything! I don't think i've ever had a singalong. People sang Happy Birthday for me once, does that count?

I wasn't there, which i suppose sucked a bit. Although looking at the line-up i don't think i would have spent much time around the main stage. Last year's was pretty awesome (can you get a more perfect headlining pair than Radiohead and Morrissey?) but overall the acts on show this year were just too M.O.R for me. Watching the highlights Foo Fighters looked absolutely monsterous as usual, and seeing Primal Scream would always be good, (listen to the live track to see what i mean.) other than that i'd have spent a lot of time at the JJB arena probably.

In other news, if i get round to it i'm getting tickets to see the Manics in Brighton! I am considering going in full drag. Maybe.

it's the Bristol Colston Hall on Sept 24. PJ Harvey's doing a one off gig then and its infuriating that i haven't seen her live yet, her being the love of my life n' all. Its also the day her new album, 'White Chalk', comes out so thats two mighty fine treats in one day. The single, 'When Under Ether' also comes out on Sept 17.

Ryan Adams - Halloweenhead

This track came to my attention when i was dozing off on the sofa with BBC4 or something in he backround, and Ryan Adams was doing a session at St. Luke's. The gig overall was alright, but this track in particular was the one that held my attention the most. I'm not a massive Adams fan (and christ where do you start with his albums? He makes one every month nowadays!) but i love this song a lot right now.

Iggy And The Stooges - Search and Destroy

This is here plainly because it is a damn awesome song which i listen to about 10 times a day at the moment. If i felt that Rock n' Roll had to be symbolised by one song, which i don't, then it might be this song. Enjoy!

I can't remember wether me making this blog was out of curiosity or boredom, but the fact its here at all means i was obviously spurred on enough to put some effort in. Does this bode well for the future? Probably not, knowing me.

Things to do in the near future:

Learn how to put mp3 link thingys in. Steve will tell me at some point. Hopefully.
Develop a sense of wit.
Being able to type properly would be good too, this is taking ages..

Yeah, this is going to, hopefully, be primarily a music blog for me to show the world whats making me happy aurally. (<-- is that right?) So expect lots of free stuff :)

I'm a Moz fan, as i'm sure you know, so its only right to start everything off with a fine song by everyone's favourite celibate. Its the b-side off of The Youngest Was The Most Loved, and is yet another example of keeping his best material in semi-obscurity. Enjoy!
